Just last week there was an episode of Mythbusters where they tested the Hollywood staple of the hero shielding himself from a bomb blast. They tested a wooden table, a trash container, a cinder block wall, and a car. In all cases, you would die if you were within 10 feet of the blast. So slamming a van door on a missile to enclose the explosion and escape unharmed? Even if he'd survived, he'd've been severely injured by the shock wave. Live to fight another day, Riddick.
And my pick for most interesting vision of the future? I'd say that Robocop was pretty accurate in its portrayal of the future. Many of the movie's predictions have come true: humiliating game shows, multiple-frame news broadcast with news tickers scrolling across the bottom, sunblock with insane SPF levels. And if by "interesting" you mean "cannibalistic," I'd go with Delicatessen.
Idiocracy....think that shoulda been a part of the "Save for post apocalypse humankind" category as well
Hands down, Jubilee. If you haven't seen it, it starts with Queen Elizabeth requesting her alchemist to summon an angel to show her the future (these three characters are rarely in it for the rest of the movie), right away we get demolished buildings, cars on fire, a young boy taking the ray bans off the face of a dead women hanging outside of a crashed car, and a god damn baby carriage on fire.
The rest of the film is mostly around a group of ass kicking punk girls who make up some sort of gang, and they're in contact with what seems to be a rupert murdoch esque media head who owns EVERY ASPECT of media...including the KGB...he's also crazy, and eats goldfish.
It's a post apocalyptic scenario where punks rule the town and can get away with kicking the crap out of cops, who are all corrupt, and a gigantic media head who tries to make his audience (basically all of humanity) to ignore reality and watch whatever he puts on...he even says "As long as the music is loud enough we won't hear the world falling apart." This movie is awesome. It's on Hulu Plus, and seriously worth the free week trial just to watch this one.
Also, this movie is where Adam Ant started out, and was also the first time Brian Eno composed a score for a movie...just to sell it some more....did I mention it's awesome? Punk rock girls ruling post apocalyptic england? How the hell can you not like it.
